Do I have to pay sales tax on a private car sale in Washington state? How?
I am purchasing a used car from a private owner in Seattle. Do I have to pay sales tax on the sale? If so, how do I go about actually paying that tax? Who do I pay it to? Where can I find information on the sales tax laws?

yes in washington state there is a 7% sales tax on all vehicles sold. whether or not you buy it in idaho or oregon you still have to pay the tax within 30 days at your local dmv
Yes, you will pay a tax on it. The person you are buying it from will not collect it, but when you take the title to the DMV to change it to your name, they will ask you what you paid for the car, and assess the tax amount at that time, which you will have to pay to get the title changed and vehicle licensed in your name. You local DMV or county assessor’s office will handle this for you, so only one check (or cash) paid at that time.
As for the actual laws, I am not sure what the code number is, but go to your local library and ask them for the Washington State Administrative Codes and get the indes. You should find it in there, or contact your local DMV or assessor’s office, and they may have pamphlets that give you that info.
Yes, you do have to pay sales tax. On the back of the title there is a place to write the price. When you go to DMV to register, they will see the price and collect sales tax. Some people write lower price to save sales tax. Search web for other info.
